Reading

6th Grade: We use the WonderWorks Intervention as our core reading curriculum. Click here for specific information about how our week looks using WonderWorks. 

7/8th Grade: We use Prentice-Hall Literature as our core reading curriculum. 

I like to incorporate novels as often as possible so we won't always be in our reading textbooks. Most of our tasks and activities are assigned via Google Classroom. You can access Google Classroom at home via a computer, tablet, or smart phone. Just download the Google Classroom App and sign in using your @ggs email. 

Spelling

Students spelling lists may be found on Google Classroom. Assignments may be typed in a Doc or written on paper. Tests are typically on Fridays. 

Vocabulary 

6th Grade: The weekly vocabulary trifold is assigned on Tuesday. The first part is writing definitions, the second is using the vocabulary word in a sentence, and the third is finding synonyms/antonyms for the vocabulary words. This is due on Friday. Vocabulary quizzes are also on Fridays and are worth 50 points.

7/8th Grade: The vocabulary words can be found on the same sheet as our spelling words. Activities vary each week. 

Language Arts

Students complete the 5-A-Day independently Monday-Thursdays. Each day addresses 5 different skills for a total of 20 skills per week. We go over and correct this together. Students earn stars for each correct items in hopes of improving from last week's score. If they improve they earn a Dojo. For example, every Monday the 5 skills are: Interpreting Similes & Metaphors, The Origins & Meanings of Idioms, Greek & Latin Affixes & Roots, Spell Words Correctly, and Synonyms. This is worth 20 points per week. Extra copies are not provided if it is misplaced.We also focus on specific skills every few weeks. We do a number of mini-lessons and activities to strengthen students' understanding of specific skills on the 5-A-Day. 

Writing

We are working on our Musings of a Middle Schooler writing notebook. Every 2-3 weeks we focus on a different writing trait.
